The Senior Application Engineer / Team Lead will provide technical and commercial support for pressure vessel and heat exchanger applications, with a strong focus on ASME Section VIII Division 1 requirements. The role will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, developing technically appropriate solutions, supporting cost estimation, and guiding the application engineering team through the complete pre-order engineering cycle.
The position will serve as a key interface between customers, sales, engineering, and internal teams, ensuring that technical proposals are accurate, commercially viable, and aligned with customer and applicable code requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Application Engineering & Technical Solutions

  • Lead the technical evaluation of pressure vessel and heat exchanger requirements based on customer specifications, drawings, datasheets, and project requirements.
  • Develop and review suitable mechanical design concepts in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 1 and applicable industry standards.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear technical inputs for engineering and design teams.
  • Review technical feasibility, design considerations, material requirements, and equipment configuration during the proposal stage.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members on complex application and design-related requirements.

Estimation & Proposal Support

  • Develop reliable technical and commercial cost estimates based on drawings, engineering inputs, customer specifications, material requirements, manufacturing processes, and project scope.
  • Evaluate material, fabrication, machining, testing, inspection, and other relevant cost elements for accurate estimation.
  • Support preparation and review of technical and commercial proposals.
  • Identify technical deviations, exclusions, assumptions, and commercial risks at the proposal stage.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a technical point of contact for customers during technical discussions and clarification cycles.
  • Understand customer expectations and provide technically sound responses to queries.
  • Participate in technical meetings, presentations, and discussions with domestic and international customers.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, Projects, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure alignment of technical and commercial requirements.

Team Leadership & Technical Mentoring

  • Lead and guide application engineers in handling technical enquiries, estimation, and proposal-related activities.
  • Allocate work, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of application engineering deliverables.
  • Review team outputs and provide technical guidance to improve accuracy and consistency.
  • Develop team capability through knowledge sharing, mentoring, and exposure to different equipment applications.
  • Support standardization of application engineering practices, estimation methodologies, and technical documentation.

Codes, Standards & Compliance

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1 and relevant standards applicable to pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
  • Interpret customer specifications and identify applicable technical and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure application solutions and technical proposals are aligned with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Keep abreast of relevant industry practices and changes in applicable standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve estimation accuracy, proposal turnaround time, technical standardization, and application engineering processes.
  • Develop and maintain standard templates, calculation references, technical databases, and knowledge repositories.
  • Capture lessons learned from completed enquiries and projects to strengthen future proposals and technical solutions.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1.
  • Good understanding of pressure vessel and heat exchanger design principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, datasheets, specifications, and customer documents.
  • Experience in technical estimation and cost evaluation for process equipment.
  • Good understanding of materials, fabrication processes, testing, inspection, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4–7 years of relevant experience in Application Engineering, Design Engineering, Proposal Engineering, or Estimation.
  • Experience in pressure vessels, heat exchangers, process equipment, or related Oil & Gas equipment is preferred.
  • Candidates with demonstrated experience in handling customer enquiries and leading a small technical team will be preferred.
